In the 1st T20I match between India and Bangladesh on October 6, 2024, India secured a convincing seven-wicket win, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. The match took place at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. 


Bangladesh, after being sent in to bat, struggled against India's disciplined bowling, being bowled out for 127 in 19.5 overs.Arshdeep Singh led the Indian bowling attack with an impressive 3-14, and Varun Chakravarthy, returning to the team after a three-year absence, took 3-31.



 India's bowlers capitalized on Bangladesh’s poor shot selection and inability to build partnerships. Mayank Yadav, making his debut, also showcased great rhythm and control, adding to Bangladesh’s troubles.For Bangladesh, there were few standout performances with the bat.


 Despite their intentions to play positive cricket, their top and middle order faltered, leading to their modest total. The lack of rotation of strike and failure to keep wickets in hand made it difficult for them to put up a competitive score. Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh’s captain, expressed disappointment in the team’s inability to make the most of the powerplay and acknowledged that a more disciplined batting approach was necessary.


In response, India’s chase was clinical. They reached 132/3 in just 11.5 overs. Hardik Pandya played a crucial role, top-scoring with 39 runs off 18 balls, providing the innings with the acceleration it needed. Suryakumar Yadav contributed with a solid 29 off 16 balls, while the other batters, including debutant Nitish Reddy, played with composure.India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, praised the team’s adaptability, noting that the plan discussed in the team meetings had worked out well on a new ground. 


He emphasized that the depth in India’s bowling options made it easier to handle different situations during the game. India’s ability to rotate their bowlers and adapt to the conditions, combined with Bangladesh’s lack of resistance, ensured a smooth victory for the hosts.Arshdeep Singh, named Player of the Match, attributed his success to his experience and minor technical adjustments in his run-up and wrist positioning. He highlighted the importance of adapting to the conditions in T20 cricket and praised his bowling teammates, particularly Mayank Yadav, for their contributions.


For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman were the only bowlers to offer some resistance, but with such a low target, India cruised to victory. Shanto acknowledged the need for a better game plan in the next match, emphasizing the importance of preserving wickets and rotating strike in future encounters.


With this win, India continues to show dominance at home, while Bangladesh will need to regroup and approach the next game with better strategies if they hope to level the series. The second T20I is set to take place in Delhi, where Bangladesh will be eager to put up a more competitive performance.
